46. Villa Les Lavandes ***** Le Flayosquet (Draguignan) 10 persons 1975 - 2720 euro

The Southern part of France, especially the region between Nice and Marseille, the Provence, has been a very attractive area for people from the West of Europe. The low grey skies are replaced by 300 days of sunshine and blue skies. The bright light gave inspiration to the painters of the impressionism. Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne and many others made their most beautiful paintings in the Provence. The beautiful scenery surrounds the small medieval villages on the hills in the inn-land.

A village on the hill, as mentioned above, is Flayosc, 5 kms North of the capital of the Var, Draguignan, and ca. 35 kms from St Tropez, the world famous sea resort. The “Gorges du Verdon”, a deep cliff in the mountains, are situated north of Flayosc. For touristic information see our page Flayosc. The Villa 'Les Lavendes' is situated on a large fenced and enclosed place with e.a. a little wood, a meadow, a garden, a “jeu de boules”track, a children’s play ground and a heated swimming pool. In the early, mid and late season, stays are available based on bed and breakfast (chambres & tables d'hôtes). During the highseason, the villa and annexes are only for rent as one entity for 10 persons without bed and breakfast. On a regular basis the owners organize cooking courses. Also possible : a tennisarrangement. The tennispark "Le courage des Coquelicots" is situated at 300m from the villa.

The main house
Three bedrooms, each with their own bathroom and toilet for maxl 7 persons. There are two bedrooms and 3 bathrooms at the first floor. Downstairs: a large livingroom, completely equipped kitchen, one bedroom and a bathroom. Meals can also be prepared in the causy summerkitchen. All the rooms have a TV or a CD-radio combination. Babybed and babychair available.

The studio
with bathroom and toilet, for 2 persons (exra long bed of 2.15 cm).

The Cabanon
a little house in which the wine-grower had his meal and a midday-nap. The little house had been built in 1899 and could not be used any more. There are two beds, each 90 x 205 cm, a dinner-set, a frigidaire, a sink, a toilet and some cupboards. The cabanon has its own terrace. A second toilet and the shower are at 8 mtres, just next to the fully equipped summer-kitchen. The cabanon is especially popular amongst teenagers.

 
Outside
A little wood, a meadow, a garden, a “jeu de boules”track, a children’s play ground and a swimming pool (with security alarm), a pizza oven and a giant chessgame. In the house are a pool billiard, a table soccer game available.

 

 
Surroundings
The villa "Les Lavandes" is situated just on the border of the city of Draguignan and the village of Flayosc. This village has an interesting history. In early days there was a vivid industry, now just one shoe factory is all there is left. During the last twenty five years tourism became very important. On top of the green hills you find Flayosc with its houses built in the fifteenth and sixteenth century. The church, of which parts originate from the thirteenth century, has an open iron construction on top of its tower in which the bells are. This campanula is typical for the region. The road D555 leads directly to the heart of the village. At the round about near Flayosc you do not follow the main road but you go straight on up the hill. After a hundred miles you see at your right hand side a square with remnants of the old village walls and the church.

In the second half of the past century the people of the rural areas moved to the cities and Flayosc counted less than thousand inhabitants. Later the situation improved because many northern people came to the area. Not only French, but also Belgian and Dutch citizens preferred the bright blue sky of the Provence to the low grey clouds. That is why there are in the village of Flayosc several restaurants, pubs, butchers, bakers and nice little shops. It is good to be in Flayosc.
